When Should Fitness Studios Start Planning for Black Friday?

Black Friday success starts before November. Discover when fitness studios should start planning and how to prepare your marketing strategy for the sales period.

Black Friday might still feel a long way off, but for fitness studios, the most successful campaigns don't start in November.

They start now.

At Social Fitness, we've worked on Black Friday campaigns for hundreds of fitness studios, and every year we see the same thing happen.

Studios get to the end of October and suddenly ask:

“Right, what are we doing for Black Friday?”

By that point, they're already on the back foot.

Your Black Friday campaign shouldn't start when your offer goes live. The strongest campaigns have been planned, built and warmed up long before November arrives.

From September, the timeline we think about is simple:

September: Build
October: Warm Up
November: Convert

Here’s what we mean.

September: Build

September is about getting everything in place and making sure you have an audience to speak to when the time comes.

Your strategy needs to be clear, but your database, lead generation and audience-building activity become increasingly important here.

Because the last thing you want to do is wait until Black Friday to start looking for people to sell your Black Friday offer to.

The work you do now puts you in a much stronger position when November arrives.

October: Warm Up

Now you've got their attention.

October is about building intent and making sure your audience understands the value of your studio before you ask them to buy.

This is where your content, messaging and wider marketing activity should start working together.

And yes, you can start creating a little anticipation for what's coming.

The goal is simple: when your Black Friday campaign eventually lands, your audience should already know who you are and why they might want to buy from you.

November: Convert

November is when everything comes together.

Your offer launches, your campaigns go live and the audience you've spent the previous months building and nurturing is ready to convert.

Paid social, organic, email, SMS and your wider marketing activity should all be pulling in the same direction.

At this point, you shouldn't be deciding what your Black Friday strategy is.

You should be executing it.

Black Friday Isn't Just About The Discount

One of the biggest misconceptions around Black Friday is that the biggest discount wins.

It doesn't.

Especially in fitness.

Your offer needs to make commercial sense for the business while being compelling enough to make someone act.

And how you communicate that offer matters just as much as the number attached to it.

The studios that perform well aren't simply shouting about a discount.

They're building demand, communicating value and giving people a reason to choose them.
